Thursday, November 27th, 2008Finntroll Presentation
Wednesday, November 26th, 2008
Finntroll is a very well known folk metal band that comes from Finland. Their music has been combined as a combination of humppa (Finnish polka) and black metal. All Finntroll lyrics are in Swedish, with the official reason that they sound trollish. Finntroll actually means “Troll from Finland“.
The band was formed in 1997. The original members were Teemu “Somnium” Raimoranta and Jan “Katla” Jamsen. They recorded a demo that was released one year later. That was when Samuli Ponsimaa (guitarist), Henri Sorvali (keyboardist that also played with Moonsorrow), Sami Uusitalo (bassist) and Samu Routsalainen (drummer that also played with Rapture, Shape of Despair and Barathrum) joined Finntroll. The immediate result was the first album, called Midnattens Widunder.
The next album signed Finntroll appeared in 2001 and it was called Jaktens Tid. The good news for the folk metal band was that this album actually reached position 20 in Finnish album chart. It is needless to say that this exceeded everyone’s expectations. Thanks to this Century Media got involved in promoting Finntroll around the world. We then started seeing the band playing in open air festivals in different countries. (more…)

Elvenking - The Scythe Review
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
It is needless to say that The Scythe is a controversial album. A lot of fans ended disliking it because of a different approach to the music done by Elvenking. We think that the biggest problem was the fact that the folk elements are more in the background and power metal elements are a lot stronger. The lyrics also bring in a darker theme and we can say that The Scythe is one album that is not like the ones that appeared before from Elvenking.
Now the fans can take it as they want. With this album Elvenking won and lost a lot of fans. We must say that the combination brought is enjoyable. The folk elements are almost eliminated but the violin is used a lot and does a great job at setting the mood. It is very easy to criticize but very hard to notice that we are talking about a very good album. Although The Divided Heart is a little too commercial for our personal tastes, the other tracks are very impressive. The Scythe is one album that actually has a story and you will find it out at the end. Death appears as a woman and we are basically faced with a story that relates to folklore from some point of views. The lyrics are darker and the folk elements mild. (more…)
Elvenking - The Divided Heart Music Video
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008The Divided Heart is one of the best tracks (according to us) from the The Scythe album by Elvenking. We are talking about the first ever album from the band that was centered on the theme of death, portrayed as one beautiful woman. You will surely notice this from the video and we are sure that fans of Elvenking and power/folk metal in general will like it.
