Finntroll Presentation

Finntroll is a very well known folk metal band that comes from Finland. Their music has been combined as a combination of humppa (Finnish polka) and black metal. All Finntroll lyrics are in Swedish, with the official reason that they sound trollish. Finntroll actually means “Troll from Finland“.
The band was formed in 1997. The original members were Teemu “Somnium” Raimoranta and Jan “Katla” Jamsen. They recorded a demo that was released one year later. That was when Samuli Ponsimaa (guitarist), Henri Sorvali (keyboardist that also played with Moonsorrow), Sami Uusitalo (bassist) and Samu Routsalainen (drummer that also played with Rapture, Shape of Despair and Barathrum) joined Finntroll. The immediate result was the first album, called Midnattens Widunder.
The next album signed Finntroll appeared in 2001 and it was called Jaktens Tid. The good news for the folk metal band was that this album actually reached position 20 in Finnish album chart. It is needless to say that this exceeded everyone’s expectations. Thanks to this Century Media got involved in promoting Finntroll around the world. We then started seeing the band playing in open air festivals in different countries.
Unfortunately trouble started appearing. After Jaktens Tid, Finntroll was forced to cancel some tours because Jamsen was diagnosed with a vocal cords tumor, which was viral based. It could not be removed and he was forced to retire from the band after Visor om Slutet appeared. Finntroll got a new singer in Tapio WIlska. Unfortunately the troubles were not over. Finntroll was also faced with the death of Raimoranta. The official story was that too much alcohool caused him to fall off a bridge but there is also a story going round that he comitted suicide. The band was faced with none of the original members. This did not stop Finntroll and they eventually hired Mikael Karlbom to replace the guitarist.
The year 2004 was interesting for the folk metal band. They managed to release a new EP called Trollhammaren and a new album named Nattfodd. Finntroll’s first ever American tour was in 2006, when they joined Sodom. The same year saw the firing of Tapio WIlska for a reason that has never been released. Then, in 2007 we saw the release of Jordens Djup, the fifth album of the band.
